Mientras me siento aquí contemplando los últimos diez años produciendo teatro para el Teatro Tercera Llamada, me siento lleno de gratitud por todas las personas que han estado a mi lado y han trabajado muy duro para llevar el teatro en español a Louisville, Kentucky. Comenzamos produciendo obras de excelentes dramaturgos del mundo latino. Luego, gracias a la invitación de Looking for Lilith Theatre Company para ayudarlos a escribir una obra, aprendimos que nosotros también podíamos escribir nuestras propias historias y producir nuestras propias obras, y eso es lo que hicimos.
A lo largo de los años hemos ganado un par de premios. El premio Karen Willis de la Asociación de Teatro de Kentucky en 2018 y el Arts Louisville, Kathi E.B. Premio Ellis a la trayectoria en teatro. Todavía estamos asombrados por estos premios que nos han otorgado y agradecemos a la comunidad teatral de Louisville y Kentucky por tenernos en su radar.

As I sit here contemplating the last ten years producing theatre for Teatro Tercera Llamada, I am filled with gratitude for all the people that have stood by my side and worked very hard to bring Spanish language theatre to Louisville, Kentucky. We started off producing plays by excellent playwrights of the Latino word. Then, thanks to Looking for Lilith Theatre Company’s invitation to help them write a play, we learned that we too could write our own stories and produce our own plays, and that is what we did.
Over the years we have won a couple of awards. The Kentucky Theatre Association Karen Willis Award in 2018 and the Arts Louisville, Kathi E.B. Ellis Lifetime Achievement Award in Theatre. We are still in awe of these awards bestowed on us and we thank the theatre community in Louisville and Kentucky for having us on their radar.
Over the years, we have earned “Critics Pick” in Leo Weekly and the Courier Journal. We have been reviewed by Arts Louisville and LEO Weekly over the years and are grateful for them giving us honest and insightful reviews of our productions.
Here I am getting ready to retire with my husband and spending time with him traveling. I will continue to write and support Teatro Tercera Llamada any way I can but not in person. I hand over the reigns of the company to our mighty working board members that will regroup and replan the future of Teatro Tercera Llamada.
My heart is filled with love and joy over what we have made with the help of others. Because here at the end of my journey I have always had many by my side.

Xenia Miller, nació en San Salvador, El Salvador. Desde muy niña le gustaba escribir poesía, actuar y cantar . Escribió un guión para una obra llamada “El día de la madre” que actuó y dirigió. También escribió un cuento llamado” La luz de la Navidad”. Aunque se dedicó a estudiar la carrera de Ciencias Jurídicas en la Universidad Centroamericana ‘José Simeón Cañas’ UCA. Su sueño siempre fue actuar en teatro, y lo hizo realidad al participar en la puesta en escena de “Las Mujeres Verdaderas Tienen Curvas” de Joséfina López. Realizada en The Kentucky Center en Enero de 2017. Tambien con “Confesiones…” otra vez de Joséfina López, interpretando dos monólogos: el de Marquez-Bernstein y Tiffany. Xenia participo en la puesta en escena de “Justo Como Nosotros”, una colaboracion de Teatro Tercera Llamada y Looking for Lilith Theatre Company. Tambien participo en la puesta en escena de “Peety” de Haydee Canovas de Teatro Tercera Llamada. Ella agradece infinitamente a la actriz y productora Haydee Canovas Hernandez y a la actriz y directora Jay Marie Padilla y a su familia por su apoyo incondicional.
Xenia Miller, was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. From a very young age she liked to write poetry, act and sing. She wrote a script for a play called “Mother’s Day” which she acted in and directed. She also wrote a story called “The Light of Christmas.” Although she dedicated herself to studying Legal Sciences at the Central American University ‘José Simeón Cañas’ UCA. Her dream was always to act in theater, and she made it come true by participating in the staging of “The True Women Have Curves” by Joséfina López. Performed at The Kentucky Center in January 2017. She also performed “Confesiones…” again by Joséfina López, performing two monologues: that of Marquez-Bernstein and Tiffany. Xenia participated in the staging of “Justo Como Nuestros”, a collaboration between Teatro Tercera Llamada and Looking for Lilith Theater Company. She also participated in the staging of “Peety” by Haydee Canovas at Teatro Tercera Llamada. She infinitely thanks actress and producer Haydee Canovas Hernandez and actress and director Jay Marie Padilla and her family for their unconditional support.

Maria Virginia Zambrano is Venezuelan and has participated in plays at the Tachira State Regional Theater School, Venezuela. Mother of a 14 year old teenager. She is an administrative professional. She is grateful for the opportunity to perform with the Tercera Llamada Theater group.
Originario de La Habana, Cuba. Interpretó el papel de Alfredo Gutiérrez, el padre de Peety en la producción original de “Peety” del Teatro Tercera Llamada en la primavera de 2023. Orly también fue actor en el Festival de Obras de Diez Minutos del Teatro Tercera Llamada en 2019 y actualmente se encuentra en el 2do Festival de Obras de Diez Minutos de Teatro Tercera Llamada.
Originally from Havana, Cuba. He played the role of Alfredo Gutierrez, Peety’s father in Teatro Tercera Llamada’s original production of “Peety” in Spring 2023. Orly was also an actor if Teatro Tercera Llamada’s Festival of Ten Minute Plays in 2019 and is currently in the 2do Festival of Ten Minute Plays of Teatro Tercera Llamada.

Es de Cuba y ha estado viviendo en Louisville, Ky durante casi 6 años. Ella es profesora de ESL y sus alumnos provienen de diferentes partes del mundo. Su hija es estudiante de Drama en 6to grado y su esposo es Constructor. Tienen una familia feliz de 4 personas con su perro Night.
Como a su hija le encanta el teatro y ha participado en algunas obras, decidió aceptar ser parte de ésta. Está muy emocionada y se siente identificada con este trabajo porque es la realidad de su país, el sufrimiento de las familias separadas, los sueños rotos y las esperanzas de un futuro mejor. Espera que disfrutes la obra tanto como ella.
She’s from Cuba and has been living in Louisville,Ky for almost 6 years. She is an ESL teacher and her students come from different parts of the world. Her daughter is a Drama student in 6th grade and her husband is a Constructor. They have a happy family of 4 with their dog Night.
Since her daughter loves Theater and has been in some plays, she decided to accept being part of this one. She is very excited and feels identified with this work because it is the reality of her country, the suffering of separated families, broken dreams and hopes for a better future. She hopes you enjoy the play as much as she does.
She’s a Certified Entrepreneur and Life Coach, who has dedicated her life to help people and organizations succeed, through a compassionate, facilitative process, to engage employees, attract new customers, and resolve disputes with respect and dignity. This in turn, paved her way into running for office, being elected in 2020 serve a 4-year term as County Commissioner for District B in Jefferson County.
Her accomplishments include successful legislation projects in her home country of Puerto Rico, published author, intercultural trainer, and DEI consultant. What’s more, as a theatre enthusiast, she has performed on multiple stages including The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts and Actors Theatre. She also serves on the board of multiple arts and non-profit organizations to enhance the health and well-being of Louisville’s underserved communities by engaging them in education, empowerment, advocacy, wellness, and mutual support.
Jomaris also holds an M.B.A. in Global Management, and a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Education and Public Relations. She is currently the Executive Director at The Prosperity Agenda while pursuing a doctorate degree in Business Psychology at the Chicago School for Professional Psychology.
Es una emprendedora certificada y asesora de vida que ha dedicado su vida a ayudar a personas y organizaciones a tener éxito, a través de un proceso compasivo y facilitador, para involucrar a los empleados, atraer nuevos clientes y resolver disputas con respeto y dignidad. En México se presentó como presentadora de televisión en 2014, mismo año en que se mudó a Miami donde estuvo apareciendo en comerciales y programas de televisión. Judith se mudó a Louisville, KY en 2017 y con Teatro Tercera LLamada formó parte de “Confesiones”, “Guiando a Molly” y “La Cucarachita Martina”.
Was born in Cuba on January 4th, 1988. In 2010 she graduated in the Superior Institute of Arts of La Habana, Cuba with a degree in Scenic Arts. The same year obtained the “Adolfo Llaurado Young Actress of the year award” for her role in the show “A quien ama Heiner Muller” and the next year she is nominated to the same award for her role in “Peggy Picket ve el rostro de Dios”. In 2012 she is invited to international theater festivals in Madrid, Espain with the show “El muro” and to Bergen, Norway with “Esto no tiene nombre”. In 2013 Judith has a principal role in the TV show “S.O.S Academia” and she participated in the tv serie “Playa Leonora”. In Mexico she performed as a TV host in 2014, same year that she moved to Miami where she was appearing in commercials and TV shows. Judith moved to Louisville, KY in 2017 and with Teatro Tercera LLamada she was part of “Confesiones”, “Molly driven” and “La Cucarachita Martina”.

Nació en Holguín, Cuba, en 1954. Obtuvo su Maestría en arte y Rango 1 en Educación en la Universidad de Louisville, Kentucky, Estados Unidos. Enseñó español, Literatura y Humanidades por muchos años en la enseñanza Secundaria en Cuba y en E.U. en JCPS. Ha publicado Andar la ternura, Alma de mariposa, Vuelo de guitarras, Alas de golondrinas, poesía en español. On Swallows Wings, Butterfly Soul, poesía en inglés. Las vacaciones de Marisol, bilingüe, Mis vacaciones de sol y mar, Marisol’ s Vacation, Princesita rana y otros cuentos y Abuelita cuéntame un cuento, literatura infantil.
Ha colaborado con el grupo de teatro Tercera Llamada y con varias bibliotecas locales ofreciendo conferencias, presentaciones de libros y otras actividades para la comunidad.
She was born in Holguín, Cuba, in 1954. She obtained his Master of Arts and Rank 1 in Education from the University of Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Maria Josefa Reyes Hidalgo has collaborated with the theater group Tercera Llamada and with several local libraries offering lectures, book presentations and other activities for the community.
Es dramaturga, productora de teatro y enfermera de familia que reside en Louisville, Kentucky, desde hace más de 30 años. Encuentra inspiración en los problemas que enfrenta como proveedora de atención médica y devota hija cubanoamericana de sus padres octogenarios que viven en el sur de Florida. Se enorgullece de ayudarlos a mantenerse activos y saludables. Escribe basándose en sus intereses en temas sociales y de salud y su educación cubanoamericana. Tiene dos hijas ferozmente independientes que se han abierto camino en el mundo aprendiendo durante toda la vida como su madre.

Teatro Tercera Llamada presentará su segunda obra de larga duración, “Peety” en el Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, el MeX Theatre en marzo de 2023. She’s a playwright, theatre producer, and Family Nurse Practitioner that has resided in Louisville, Kentucky, for over 30 years. She finds inspiration in the issues she encounters as a healthcare provider and a devoted Cuban American daughter of her octogenarian parents that live in South Florida. She takes pride in helping them stay active and healthy. She writes based on her interests in social/health issues and her Cuban American upbringing. She has two fiercely independent daughters who have made their way in the world by being lifelong learners like their mother.
Ms. Canovas is the co-founder and director of Teatro Tercera Llamada, “Third Call Theater,” (the only Spanish language theatre company in Kentucky), and a member of the national organization of playwrights, The Dramatist Guild. She has studied playwriting and devising under Nancy Gall Clayton, Kathi E.B. Ellis, Migdalia Cruz with La Mama Umbria 2018 Playwright’s Retreat, the feminist artists of Looking for Lilith Theatre Company, and Derby City Playwrights.
Teatro Tercera Llamada is presenting her second full-length play, “Peety” at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, the MeX Theatre in March 2023. Recently, “Peety,” a comedic satire based on real-life events of when her father needed open heart surgery and the access to healthcare he faced, was published in the literary magazine, The Louisville Review, Spring digital edition 2020.
In March 2019, Ms. Canovas had a dramatized reading of her most current full-length play, “Love Letters to Cuba,” at La Mama Theatre, New York City. A play about the plight of her mother’s incarceration after the Bay of Pigs attack in 1961 Cuba and the eight years of letter writing between her mother’s pen pal and then-fiancé, an American Navy officer, and how a revolution changed the course of their lives.
Under Ms. Canovas leadership, Teatro Tercera Llamada won the 2018 Kentucky Theatre Association, Karen Willis Award. It is awarded yearly to an organization or individual engaged in theatre projects that address social justice.
In 2019, Ms. Canovas encouraged members of a Latinx poetry group in Louisville, Kentucky, to write ten-minute plays. She guided them on the process and in their playwriting, resulting in three sold-out performances of the Festival of Ten-Minute Plays by Teatro Tercera Llamada, which premiered in Louisville at The Bard’s Town Theater. It was a tremendous success, and a convocation of ten-minute plays is set for the 2024 2ndTen-Minute Play Festival. Plays already are coming into the digital coffers.
In February 2022, Ms. Canovas was awarded the Arts-Louisville Kathi E.B. Ellis Lifetime Achievement in Theatre.
You will find Ms. Canovas in her Lincoln log cabin in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky, tending to her garden, playing her banjo, and writing with her dog by her side.
Nació en Baguano, un aislado pueblo azucarero de la provincia Holguin, en Cuba, en 1995. En 2016 se graduó como Actor en la Academia Profesional de Artes Manuel Muñoz Cedeño. Durante dos años formó parte de Teatro de la Luna, uno de los grupos más importantes del panorama teatral habanero. Luego de su llegada a los Estados Unidos, en 2020, Reynaldo inició sus estudios en los medios audiovisuales, y en el presente desarrolla su carrera como Especialista Audiovisual en Orlando, Florida.
Was born in Baguano, an isolated sugar town in the province of Holguin, Cuba, in 1995. In 2016 he graduated as an Actor from the Manuel Muñoz Cedeño Professional Academy of Arts. For two years he was part of Teatro de la Luna, one of the most important groups on the Havana theater scene. After his arrival in the United States, in 2020, Reynaldo began his studies in audiovisual media, and is currently developing his career as an Audiovisual Specialist in Orlando, Florida.
Nacho en la Habana, Cuba y vive en Louisville, Ky. Aunque siempre me apasionó la Literatura, seguí la tradición familiar y me gradué de Ciencias Comerciales en la Universidad de la Habana, profesión que ejercí hasta mi retiro.
Desde jovencita escribía poemas y cuentos, pero solo al llegar aquí pude publicar varios libros de poesías, cuentos y relatos, estos últimos basados en hechos reales aderezados con algo de ficción.
Was born in Havana, Cuba and lives in Louisville, Ky. Although I was always passionate about Literature, I followed the family tradition and graduated in Business Sciences from the University of Havana, a profession I practiced until my retirement.
Since I was young I wrote poems and stories, but only upon arriving here was I able to publish several books of poetry, stories and stories, the latter based on real events seasoned with some fiction.

Jomaris también tiene un MBA en Gestión Global y un B.A. en Comunicaciones con mención en Educación y Relaciones Públicas. Actualmente es Directora Ejecutiva de The Prosperity Agenda mientras realiza un doctorado en Psicología Empresarial en la Escuela de Psicología Profesional de Chicago.

Ha trabajado en la escena teatral de Louisville durante 16 años, comenzando con su Licenciatura en Artes Teatrales de la UofL. Trabaja con varias compañías de teatro de la zona y es una de las directoras artísticas de varias: Teatro Tercera Llamada, Compañía Outcast y The Chamber Theatre. (Director) is excited to be working on the 2nd Festival of Ten Minute plays with Teatro Tercera Llamda. She has worked in the Louisville theater scene for 16 years starting with her Bachelors of Theater Arts degree from UofL. She works with several theater companies in the area and is one of the artistic directors for several: Teatro Tercera Llamada, Company Outcast, and The Chamber Theatre. Teatro Tercera Llamada: Silueta (director), Ogros en el Closet (director), Algo de un Tal Shakespeare (actor), and Henny Penny (Fox Delux, director). Roxell Karr es un artista multimedia que reside en el área metropolitana de Louisville, KY. Ha trabajado con nuevos conjuntos musicales como Ensemble/Parallax, Mothership Ensemble y November Group; grupos de danza como Blue Moves, Moving Collective y miembros del Louisville Ballet; los grupos teatrales Teatro Tercera Llamada, El Delirio, Buscando a Lilith, ShPIel y la Ópera de Kentucky; y su propio proyecto experimental de vídeo/violonchelo/danza, Camera Lucida.
Roxell Karr is a multi-media artist residing in the greater Louisville, KY area. He has worked with new music ensembles such as Ensemble / Parallax, the Mothership Ensemble and the November Group; dance troupes such as Blue Moves, the Moving Collective, and members of the Louisville Ballet; theatrical groups Teatro Tercera Llamada, El Delirio, Looking for Lilith, ShPIel, and the Kentucky Opera; and his own experimental video/cello/dance project, Camera Lucida.
Francisco Juárez fue uno de los cofundadores originales del Teatro Tercera Llamada y está feliz de haber podido sugerir algunas canciones al 2do Festival de Obras de Diez Minutos desde su casa en Cuernavaca, Morelos, México. Fue idea de Francisco, hace muchos años, que el Teatro Tercera Llamada produjera obras de diez minutos.
Francisco Juarez was one of the original co-founders of Teatro Tercera Llamada and is happy to have been able to suggest some songs to the 2nd Festival of Ten Minute Plays from his home in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. It was Francisco idea, many years ago, that Teatro Tercera Llamada produce ten-minute plays.
